Zeaxanthin

The zeaxanthin belongs to the category of the carotenoïds and is identified as a pigment in the retina. According to the studiy AREDS (Age-Related Eye Disease Study) done by the National Eye Institute, it has an protective effect against certain forms of retinal degenerations, in particular against the AMD (Age-Related Macular Degeneration).

Impacts on the vision |
|
| - Helps to prevent the AMD (Age-Related Macular Degeneration) : it is a disease linked to the age, which attacks the eye macula where the majority of the central vision occurs. the dry form of the AMD rarely leads to a total blindness, but can damage the whole vision by leaving only dark images or black holes at the center of the retina. The photoreceivers who gives the optimal visual acuteness to a person, the color and light perceptions start to destroy themselves with being replaced. The food supplementation in zeaxanthin can help to prevent the AMD by maintaining the levels of pigments in the photoreceivers. The zeaxanthin can also piles up in the macula and helps to filter the blue light. - Improves the central vision : the eyes allow the light to enter by the pupil by project it on a wall of cells in the back of the eye named as retina. It is composed of million photoreceiver cells : the rods and the cones. The macula located on the center of the retina is responsible for the perception of the color and for our capacity to discern the small details. It is in this zone that the zeaxanthin acts and maintains the visual performances on the long term. - Reduces the glare : another key factor is the glare resulting of the blue light. This phenomenon is due to the increase of the dusts, smog, pollen or smoke levels and other air contaminants. The last ones react with the visible and blue lights, and the short waves (blue light) will be at the origin of the harmful reflects for the vision. So, the zeaxanthin absorbs the blue light by reducing the glare for a better visual comfort. |
